IRONMAN 70.3 Champions Lauren Barnett (USA) and Jake Montgomery (AUS) have entered into partnership agreements with Human Interest Group (HIG), a leading sports marketing agency and business development firm focused on world-class endurance athletes. With impressive wins already on the IRONMAN 70.3 circuit, Montgomery and Barnett underscore their long-term commitment to elite performance by joining the HIG athlete roster.
“We are thrilled that Lauren and Monty have decided to work with HIG as they develop their professional triathlete career. We’ve been watching their successes on the course for some time and believe that now is the moment when their careers begin to fully lift off. We’re excited to help them navigate all of the partnership opportunities that are knocking on their doors. Welcome Lauren and Monty!” said the Human Interest Group Director Michael Cardoza.
In her first triathlon nine years ago, Lauren Barnett borrowed a mountain bike and wore a baggy cotton t-shirt. A lot has changed for the 32-year old Midwest native since 2007 as she now makes a full-time commitment to the 70.3 podium.
“As I pursue professionalism as an endurance athlete at the very top level, surrounding myself with the best resources in the industry has become a crucial part of my career. I am always seeking to improve upon the previous season, not just from a performance perspective, but also in the way that I represent brands. I am honored to be the newest athlete on the Human Interest Group roster because collaborating with HIG allows me to maximize opportunities for the companies that support my journey.”
Just three years after her mountain-bike-cotton-t-shirt debut, Barnett competed as an age-grouper at the 2010 IRONMAN World Championship in Kona. She finished all of her 2011 races on the podium and had an undefeated season the following year as an elite amateur.
Since transitioning to a pro in 2013, Barnett has consistently appeared on the podium at each of her races. In 2015, Barnett joined the pro top 10 in a highly competitive IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship and has her sight set on the podium for this year.
“Lauren continues to mature as a professional athlete both in her racing and brand representation in the sport. She has a careful attention to the little details that makes her continue to find ways to improve performance and maximize training sessions.” -Matt Smith, Lauren’s Coach @Sansego
Jake “Monty” Montgomery smashes the concept of the multisport athlete. The 21-year-old grew up in Australia where he ran cross country, played competitive soccer, enjoyed long swims, and surfed the good waves pounding the Gold Coast.
At thirteen, Montgomery tried out triathlon and immediately added cycling to his multisport portfolio. Montgomery has since won numerous sprint and ITU distance races, had top ten finishes on the French Grand Prix circuit, took overall wins at the Australian Mooloolaba Continental Cup, and won the Sydney Sprint Series.
In 2015, Montgomery entered long course racing with a top 10 finish at IRONMAN 70.3 Raleigh and ended the season with podiums in IRONMAN 70.3 Mandurah and IRONMAN 70.3 Western Sydney. This year, Montgomery’s ascent continues after his season-opening win at IRONMAN 70.3 Geelong against a stacked field, including many experienced 70.3 champions.
“Having had a podium finish in my last three 70.3 appearances, the business side of triathlon has become very prominent. Being at the top level requires the backing of industry leading resources, which is why I am excited to announce that I have partnered with HIG, triathlon’s leading professional sports management agency. Looking forward to a very exciting future.”
Montgomery splits his time between the Gold Coast and Boulder, Colorado. When not racing for the 70.3 podium, Montgomery captures his training and daily experiences via photography and social media, particularly Snapchat: jakemont23.
